Understanding the Difference Between a Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty and a Powertrain Warranty

If you're in the market for a new or certified preowned car, it pays to understand the type of warranty that comes with the vehicle. At Kings Volkswagen in Cincinnati, OH, we want to understand the difference between a powertrain warranty and a bumper-to-bumper warranty and the pros and cons of each type. Knowing what your warranty covers will help you make more informed decisions when it comes to your car's maintenance and repairs.

Powertrain Warranty

A powertrain warranty covers everything that has to do with the car's propulsion, such as the engine, transmission, drivetrain, and other parts that deliver power to the wheels. Most certified preowned vehicles come with a powertrain warranty.

Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty

A bumper-to-bumper warranty covers just about everything from the front bumper to the rear bumper. However, the bumpers themselves are not covered because they're considered body panels. A bumper-to-bumper warranty is also called a comprehensive warranty and covers the powertrain, the electronics, the suspension, vehicle systems, and other components. Keep in mind that bumper-to-bumper warranties don't last as long as powertrain warranties.
